3 Maps and weather

Change the map background and show the overlays needed to understand the proposed flight area.

Choose a base map

1. Select Layers to open Map Options.
2. Under Map Type, select Street Map or Satellite Map.
3. Subscribers can also select WAC/VNC/VTC or EnRoute Low.
4. Return to the map. The selection is saved immediately.

Apple

1. Select Layers to open Map Options.
2. Under Maps, select Street Map or Satellite.
3. Subscribers can also select WAC/VNC/VTC or EnRoute Low.
4. Select Done to return to the map.

Web

1. Open Open Options Sidebar > CONFIGURE > Maps & Overlays.
2. Under MAPS, select Street Map or Satellite.
3. Subscribers can also select WAC/VNC/VTC or EnRoute Low.
4. Close Maps & Overlays.

Show an active overlay

Active overlays can include:

• Aircraft Traffic
• Weather Radar
• Lightning
• Dynamic Grid
• 3D Buildings
• 3D Terrain
• NOTAM Geometries

Open Map Options or Maps & Overlays, then enable the required item under Active Overlays or ACTIVE OVERLAYS. These overlays require a subscription.

The map footer reports useful active-layer state. For example, weather and lightning can show data age, the dynamic grid shows its spacing, and NOTAM geometry shows whether it is on or off.

• Aircraft Traffic shows recent positions and, where available, projected movement. Symbol colour can reflect proximity to the most recently checked location.
• Weather Radar animates precipitation observations from the preceding hour.
• Lightning shows recent cloud and ground strikes. Symbol orientation and colour distinguish the available event types and age.
• Dynamic Grid provides a map-centred measurement grid whose scale changes with map zoom.
• 3D Buildings and 3D Terrain add perspective detail at supported zoom levels.

Radar and lightning are recent observations, not forecasts. Use View a weather forecast for forecast information at the checked location and time.

Show another available overlay

Open the Overlays, STATIC OVERLAYS or equivalent list and enable the required layer. Ok2Fly retrieves this catalogue from the service, so the available names and access requirements can change.

Some overlays are public. A subscription or other access entitlement is required when a layer is disabled or prompts you to start a trial.

Available layers can include flight-information-area frequency boundaries, controlled airspace, local-government boundaries and historical paraglider tracks. Additional layers can include upper restricted airspace, non-registered airfields, uncontrolled-airfield envelopes, runway splays and communications information.

Inspect aircraft traffic

When Aircraft Traffic is on, select a traffic symbol to review the available callsign, altitude, groundspeed and heading information. A symbol can also indicate climb or descent and projected movement.

WARNING

Traffic information can be incomplete, delayed or unavailable. Do not use the overlay for separation or as a substitute for lookout, applicable procedures or approved traffic information.

Reset overlays at the next start

Use the iOS or iPadOS Settings app when you need Ok2Fly to start once with overlays cleared:

1. Open the system Settings app and select Ok2Fly.
2. Turn on Disable All Active Map Overlays On Start or Remove All Map Overlays On Start.
3. Start Ok2Fly. The selected reset runs once and its switch returns to off.
