3.4 Measure distance and work with geometry

Measure between map points on every platform. Ok2Fly Web also provides subscriber tools for tracks and polygons, while Apple can load a prepared operation geometry.

A track connects a start point, intermediate waypoints and an end point. Its configured buffer represents the intended lateral area or uncertainty. A polygon represents an irregular operation area and remains closed as vertices are added.

Measure distance

  1. In Settings, set Ruler Units to Metres, Kilometres or Nautical Miles.
  2. Touch the map with two fingers and hold until the ruler begins.
  3. Move the fingers to measure, then release to leave the result displayed.
  4. Tap the map to dismiss it.

Configure Web geometry defaults

Web

Geometry tools require a subscription.

  1. Open Open Options Sidebar > CONFIGURE > Map Accessories & Settings.
  2. Under Track, set the lateral, vertical and longitudinal buffers and the waypoint prefix.
  3. Under Polygon, set the extended search buffer.
  4. Under Export, set the default filename and choose GeoJSON (.geojson) or KML (.kml).
  5. Select Save.

Draw and check a flight area

Web
  1. Enable Geometry Tools.
  2. Select Draw Track or Draw Polygon.
  3. Select points on the map to create the geometry, then finish the drawing.
  4. Select the saved geometry and choose Query.
  5. Review the complete flight-check result for the buffered area.

Import a geometry file

Web
  1. Select Load Geometry File.
  2. Choose a .geojson, .kml, .gpx, .csv or .kmz file.
  3. For CSV, provide at least two rows containing Name, Latitude, Longitude and optional altitude and waypoint values.
  4. Confirm that the imported geometry is correctly positioned before checking it.

Import an operation geometry

Query a loaded operation geometry

Open the file from Files

  1. Open Files on the iPhone or iPad.
  2. Locate and select the GeoJSON or KML file.
  3. If prompted, choose Ok2Fly as the destination app.
  4. Return to Ok2Fly and inspect the complete geometry before querying or using it in an operation plan.

Edit or export saved geometry

Web

Select a saved track or polygon, then use the applicable control:

  • Edit changes its points.
  • Rename accepts letters, numbers, spaces, underscores and hyphens.
  • Change Color changes its map colour.
  • Save exports it using the configured filename and format.

WARNING

Delete removes the selected geometry. Clear ALL Saved Geometries removes every saved geometry. Confirm the intended scope before continuing.
