3.4 Measure distance and work with geometry
Measure between map points on every platform. Ok2Fly Web also provides subscriber tools for tracks and polygons, while Apple can load a prepared operation geometry.
A track connects a start point, intermediate waypoints and an end point. Its configured buffer represents the intended lateral area or uncertainty. A polygon represents an irregular operation area and remains closed as vertices are added.
Measure distance
- In Settings, set Ruler Units to Metres, Kilometres or Nautical Miles.
- Touch the map with two fingers and hold until the ruler begins.
- Move the fingers to measure, then release to leave the result displayed.
- Tap the map to dismiss it.
Configure Web geometry defaults
Geometry tools require a subscription.
- Open Open Options Sidebar > CONFIGURE > Map Accessories & Settings.
- Under Track, set the lateral, vertical and longitudinal buffers and the waypoint prefix.
- Under Polygon, set the extended search buffer.
- Under Export, set the default filename and choose GeoJSON (.geojson) or KML (.kml).
- Select Save.
Draw and check a flight area
- Enable Geometry Tools.
- Select Draw Track or Draw Polygon.
- Select points on the map to create the geometry, then finish the drawing.
- Select the saved geometry and choose Query.
- Review the complete flight-check result for the buffered area.
Import a geometry file
- Select Load Geometry File.
- Choose a
.geojson,.kml,.gpx,.csvor.kmzfile. - For CSV, provide at least two rows containing
Name, Latitude, Longitudeand optional altitude and waypoint values. - Confirm that the imported geometry is correctly positioned before checking it.
Import an operation geometry
Load the file from Ok2Fly
- Select Layers on the map.
- Scroll to Geometry at the bottom of Map Options.
- Select Load GeoJSON File.
- In Files, locate and select the GeoJSON or KML file. A remotely stored file may need to download before it can be selected.
- Wait for Ok2Fly to display the geometry and centre the map on it.
- Select the geometry and choose Query Area to check its buffered area.
Apple
Open the file from Files
- Open Files on the iPhone or iPad.
- Locate and select the GeoJSON or KML file.
- If prompted, choose Ok2Fly as the destination app.
- Return to Ok2Fly and inspect the complete geometry before querying or using it in an operation plan.
Edit or export saved geometry
Select a saved track or polygon, then use the applicable control:
- Edit changes its points.
- Rename accepts letters, numbers, spaces, underscores and hyphens.
- Change Color changes its map colour.
- Save exports it using the configured filename and format.
WARNING
Delete removes the selected geometry. Clear ALL Saved Geometries removes every saved geometry. Confirm the intended scope before continuing.
