4.2 Map actions and waypoint details
View nearby items
Select the map to open Nearest Items. The list can include nearby airports, navigation aids, navigation-data waypoints and user waypoints. Use the filters at the top to change the item types or select All when the required location is not shown.
The Add/Direct To switch controls the Quick Action (+) beside each result:
- Add adds the location to the end of the flight plan.
- Direct To starts direct navigation to the location.
The first result creates a user waypoint at the selected map position. Buttons at the end of the list can also create or close a flight plan.

Selecting a waypoint that is already in the active plan opens Waypoint Details directly.
View additional nearest-item details
The list also shows bearing and distance from the current position and can show maps available at the selected location.
- A helicopter landing site appears when the selected aircraft is a helicopter or the HLS overlay is enabled under Map overlays.
- In Fly mode, touch and hold the map for about half a second to open Nearest Items.
Open waypoint details
Select a result to open Waypoint Details. Available actions can include Direct To, Add to Plan, Terminal and, for a waypoint already in the plan, Delete.
The page can also show coordinates, elevation, daylight times, weather, NOTAMs, cameras, airport documents and distance rings.
At an airport with a METAR, the weather view combines runway layout, wind direction and the METAR flight-category colour. A SPECI adds an orange warning symbol.
Display a chart on the map
For an airport, or a navaid with an associated procedure, select a georeferenced DAP and then select Show Chart on Map.

Options at the end of the details can also add the location as a destination or en route alternate.
Direct to
Navigate directly to a waypoint
Select Direct To at the top of En Route to list locations near the current GPS position.

- Search for a location or filter the results by airport, navaid or waypoint.
- Select a result. A magenta line shows the direct track from the current position.

- Select near the required location on the map to open Nearest Items.
- Enable Direct To.
- Select Add (+) beside the required location.
Android
Navigate to a flight-plan waypoint
- Select the required flight-plan waypoint on the map.
- In Waypoint Details, select Direct To.
When the aircraft reaches a waypoint that is already in the plan, AvPlan EFB sequences to the following leg.
Navigate from the flight plan
- Touch and hold the required waypoint or leg in the flight plan.
- Select Direct To from Leg Settings.
Cancel direct navigation
With a flight plan open, use either method:
- select Previous Leg or Next Leg until the required leg is active; or
- set Plan/Fly to Plan.
When no flight plan is open, select TO in the HUD.

Search the map
Android and Apple
- Enter a waypoint identifier, full name or part of a name. For example, enter
Ashbto find names containing that text. - Select a result to centre the map on it.

Enter an airspace identifier, such as R332, and select the result to show its position and outline. See also View PRDs for a route.
Distance rings around a location
Distance rings can be added around a location (Airport, ALA, published or user Waypoint).
In then nearest items pop-up, tap to select an aerodrome, navaid or waypoint then select “Distance Rings”.
The diameter of a ring in nautical miles must be set with a slider (up to 100 nm), or typed in as a value (no limit)
The colour of the ring and whether or not the ring is filled can be selected
Tap on Add to add the ring. The distance ring will be drawn and will remain on your chart until deleted.
Any number of rings can be added to a location

Distance rings can be deleted by scrolling to the bottom of the distance rings window, swiping left on the ring descriptor in the list at the bottom and tapping the Delete button
Use the Back button to exit the distance rings interface and return to the nearest items window.

Adding a fix
A user fix can be added to a map, just like circling your current position on a paper chart and noting the time.
- Tap on the aircraft (or where you actually are) and the Nearest Items window is displayed.
- Tap Add Fix in the bottom left of the screen.

- To delete a fix, tap on the fix and then tap Delete Fix.
Fixes are stored against the active flight plan. With the plan in Edit mode, you will see an option at the bottom of the plan to Clear Fixes. This will clear all fixes associated with the active flight plan (useful for times when the plan will be reused).
Submitting PIREPs

To submit a PIREP:
- Tap on the map at the spot you wish to submit the report.
- From the Nearest Items window, tap the ‘Submit PIREP’ button at the bottom.
- A form will be displayed. You can select the weather phenomenon, add the current altitude, winds, cloud and remarks and then submit it. You don’t need to fill out every part, just the pertinent sections for the weather you’re observing.
- Once you tap Submit it will be almost instantly available to all other AvPlan EFB users (assuming they have network connectivity – 4G/WiFi).

No personal information (such as aircraft callsign, name etc) is transmitted.
PIREPs are visible to other AvPlan EFB users for two hours. In the USA, AvPlan EFB submitted PIREPs are also shared with NOAA.

Ruler
Measure distance and bearing
The ruler measures great-circle distance and bearing between two points on the map.
The digital ruler shows magnetic bearing.
- Place two fingers slightly apart on the map and hold them still for about two seconds.
- When the ruler appears, keep both fingers on the screen and spread, contract, twist or drag them to position the ruler.
- Lift your fingers. The ruler remains fixed to the map while you pan with one finger.

Moving both fingers during the initial pause may be interpreted as a map-zoom gesture.
To clear the ruler, pinch in or out with two fingers to change the map zoom level. Creating another ruler also replaces the current ruler.
