3.5 Route briefing

Request and review a briefing tailored to the route, stage, aircraft and planned time of flight. A briefing can include weather, area frequencies, RAIM information, NOTAMs, graphical forecasts and grid-point wind and temperature charts.

WARNING

Request a new briefing after changing the route, stage, ETD or aircraft, and check that the returned validity period covers the planned operation.

Request a route briefing

1. Make a flight plan that starts in Australia active and enter the planned ETD.
2. Confirm that an aircraft is selected and your credentials are saved under Settings > User Settings > NAIPS Details.
3. Select Planning > Route Briefing (SPFIB).
4. Wait for the briefing to load before reviewing its contents.
5. Select Refresh when a complete new briefing is required.

Route Briefing (SPFIB) is available on Android when the active flight plan starts in Australia.

1. Open the flight plan and enter the planned ETD.
2. Open Planning > Route Briefing (SPFIB).
3. Select Refresh when a new briefing is required.
4. Wait for SPFIB Briefing to load.

1. Open the flight plan and enter the planned ETD.
2. Open Planning > SPFIB/IFIS Briefing.
3. Wait for the briefing to load before reviewing its validity period and contents.

Web

1. Open the plan and select the required Stage.
2. Open Route Briefing.
3. Select Request.
4. Wait for the briefing to load.

Search and mark the briefing

1. Enter a term in Search briefing.
2. Use Search Previous and Search Next to move between matches.
3. Select Enable Highlighting.
4. Mark the required text, then use Use Eraser to remove individual marks or Clear to remove all marks.
5. Select Done Highlighting when finished.

Apple 9.x

Apple 9.x does not provide the briefing search and highlighting controls available in Apple 10.x. Review the briefing directly and use Update to show changes since the original briefing.

• Select Structured when a grouped briefing is available, or Plain for the plain-text briefing.
• Select Highlight to mark important text and Plain Text to turn highlighting off.
• Select Charts to jump to available charts and Top to return to the start of the briefing.

2. Select Update to request and display changes since the original briefing.
3. Select Refresh when the route or timing has changed and a complete new briefing is required.

1. Keep Original selected to review the briefing returned for the original request.
2. Select Update SPFIB to request and display changes since the original briefing.
3. Use Refresh when the route or timing has changed and a complete new briefing is required.

Apple 9.x

Select Update to show only the changes between the original briefing and the current conditions. Request a complete new briefing after changing the route, stage, ETD or aircraft.

Filter briefing items

Web

• Select Filtered to show route-related items or All Items to remove that filter.
• Use Route Buffer to change the route-filter distance.
• Use an available map action to open a briefing item on the map.

Check the briefing period

Apple

• With an ETD, an SPFIB is requested from one hour before departure until two hours after the calculated destination ETA.
• Without an ETD, the request begins immediately and covers eight hours.
• An IFIS briefing covers 24 hours from the request time.

INFO

An IFR route waypoint can differ from the identifier of an airport directly below the route. The briefing may therefore omit that airport's TAF. Add or check the relevant airport information separately when required.

If NAIPS rejects a briefing request for a previously filed plan, clear the plan for reuse before requesting it again.
