1.3 Regulatory information

Australia
AvPlan EFB has been formally approved by CASA for use as an in-flight electronic flight bag in Australia in accordance with Civil Aviation Advisory Publication AC 91-17, replacing CAAP 233-1(1), and the Civil Aviation Safety Regulation parts referenced in that publication.
Paragraph 6.2 of AC 91-17 requires an EFB device to have a screen measuring at least 200 mm diagonally. An iPad mini or larger device meets this criterion; phones should be treated as planning devices rather than approved in-flight EFB devices.
New Zealand
Advisory Circular AC91-20 covers electronic flight bag use in New Zealand. For Part 91 operators, replacing paper material with an EFB is a decision for the operator or pilot in command. Use an evaluation period with paper backup while confirming availability and reliability.
AvPlan EFB is not specifically approved by the New Zealand Civil Aviation Authority, but may be used as described in AC91-20 when the operator or pilot in command decides it is appropriate.
