9.1 Data downloads
Download a region
Use Settings > Data Downloads to store charts and documents covered by the subscription for offline use.
- Select the required chart type at the top of the page.
- Select a region on the map.
- Select Download. AvPlan downloads the subscribed Mega maps and applicable ERSA, AIP and DAP content for that region.
The region colour shows its state:

| Orange | Only part of the region has been downloaded. |
| Green | All core data is stored on the device. |
Select the red Update button when it appears to update every previously downloaded region.
The map can also use light grey for a previously requested region that is not currently stored, and light green for Leave to Expire.
The individual VTC, VNC, ERC Low and WAC charts are not downloaded by default because they are included in Mega VFR and Mega IFR En Route Low. To store them separately, select the chart type and then the required chart regions.
When data is available, select Update. To cancel a download, select the blue stop control inside its progress circle or select Cancel All. Swipe the Current Downloads panel to the right to hide it.
Delete a region
Select the downloaded or partially downloaded region, then choose how to remove it.
Deleting all data for an unwanted region also stops prompts to update that region.
- Select Delete to remove the region data immediately.
- Select Leave to Expire to retain the data until its expiry date without downloading that region again during an update.
- Select Cancel to leave the region unchanged.
Download individual items
Use Other Downloads to store individual maps or data instead of downloading a complete region.
Select the required item under Other Downloads. Terrain data under Worldwide Other downloads automatically and may return after a temporary deletion when the device connects to Wi-Fi.
Other specialist maps and data types can include 250k topographic maps, planning charts, regulatory documents and enabled user maps.
Bulk downloads
Select the bulk-download option to download all subscribed data except WAC charts. Initial and recurring downloads can be large.

WARNING
Review the selected maintenance action before continuing. Some actions remove all stored information of the selected type.
Keep aviation data current
Australian users choose the regions they require. Navigation data, ERSA and AIP pages, and subscribed DAP charts then download for those regions. New Zealand data covered by the subscription downloads without selecting individual regions.
When Automatic Data Download is enabled under Settings > User Settings, updates download while the device is online. Otherwise, AvPlan checks when the app opens. If replacement data has a future effective date, AvPlan continues using the current set until the new set becomes valid.
WARNING
Before flight, connect every primary and backup device to the internet and open AvPlan EFB so it can confirm that its navigation data and charts are current. AvPlan EFB does not operate after it detects expired data. Include this check in the preflight procedure.
Download data sharing
Tapping the Devices button will bring up the Download Sync menu.
When AvPlan EFB sees that the data is available from a local source (i.e. another iPad or iPhone on the same WiFi network), that source will be automatically chosen over downloading via the internet. This reduces the amount of data downloaded by only needing to download it once. Data can either be pushed from a master device to other devices, or the necessary data can be pulled to your device from another device on the network.
To use Download Sharing:
- Ensure your devices are connected to the same WiFi access point.
- Ensure all devices are open to the Data Downloads page. Then tap Settings > Data Downloads > Devices.
- Switch the Enable Download Sync to ON (switch will turn green). The devices will need a few moments to quietly contact each other and work out what elements each has currently stored. After this has occurred (this may take up to a minute or two depending on device types), any nearby devices in this state will be listed.
- To send data from a master device to another:
- Select the destination device from the list.
- Tap Send Data To Device.
- The receiving device will show a list of downloads and progress icons.
- To pull data from another device, tap an area and select Download, or tap Update. If that region is present on the master device, the requesting device will get the data from the local source in preference to the internet.

Note: This function even works across devices that are subscribed to different pilots. It could be helpful in places of limited internet bandwidth. If another AvPlan EFB user has updated data on their device, once both devices are connected to the same WiFi access point, data sharing can occur.
Cant share data?
If data sharing isn’t working for you, it can be difficult to work out why, but one issue that we know about is when AvPlan devices are connected to a WiFi router that does not permit inter-device communications… this can happen if your devices are connected via a WiFi printer server. Great for printing, but not great for data sharing. If you suspect this kind of problem, try connecting to a different WiFi network.
